Sustainable Winegrowing Australia Certification

The Winemakers of Rutherglen wanted to position the region as a leader in sustainable winegrowing, but most member wineries had no experience with formal certification processes.
In 2023, Lecroma facilitated a workshop for 16 local wine businesses to introduce the Sustainable Winegrowing Australia (SWA) scheme, then provided tailored follow-up support: conducting ESG reviews, designing certification programs and working alongside individual businesses to complete the process. Lecroma had already supported Stanton and Killeen Wines to become one of the first fully certified wineries in Victoria across both vineyard and winery operations.
85 per cent of Winemakers of Rutherglen member wineries have now completed the certification process. Rutherglen is on track to become the first wine region in Australia to be fully certified in sustainable winegrowing practices.
