Approvals and community confidence – Agriculture
Integrated Egg Laying Operation
McLean Farms Australia | Torrumbarry, VIC
McLean Farms Australia proposed a large-scale, vertically integrated egg laying operation in Torrumbarry, regional Victoria, assessed as a State Significant Development under the Environment Effects Act 1978. Agricultural identity runs deep in the region, and a development of this scale needed a clear, defensible assessment of social impacts to satisfy regulators and maintain community confidence.
In 2025, Lecroma delivered the Social Impact Assessment (SIA), evaluating potential impacts across construction, operation and long-term project stages. We analysed socio-economic baseline conditions and regional dynamics, reviewed community responses to comparable developments and integrated findings from technical studies to build a grounded picture of how the project would land locally.
The assessment went beyond identifying risks to recommending practical measures to enhance regional benefit. We also designed a post-lodgement community engagement strategy so that McLean Farms could maintain transparency and build social licence beyond the approvals process.
The SIA received no follow-up queries from the client or regulator, and the broader project is currently under assessment by the VIC Department of Transport and Planning.
